How to create and add new content

Please don't be shy!

New members are encouraged to introduce themselves to everyone else by posting a new forum topic in the who's who forum. If you don't know what to write have a look at some of the other posts there. Following the 'getting started' tutorial is very quick, simple, and forgiving, and will take you through the process of contributing to the website.

Choosing a content type:

The first step in creating content is to chose which content type suits your contribution best.  There are a few different types of page or 'content types' which have slightly different puroses. Please click on the name of the appropriate one (below) to open a fresh editing page and begin ... (please note:  you must be logged in to your user account before you can create or edit content.)

forum topic
... is used for questions, suggestions and general topical discussions, as well as member introductions (see below). The idea of posting a forum topic is to request responses and discussion from other users. They work best when each post or comment addresses only a single issue or specific point.  For more general discourse, it might be better to create an article:
article
... is used to convey a collection of interesting points about a subject for information; like a chapter in a book, whereas a forum topic tends to make a single point for discussion. It's a fine distinction and not worth worrying about too much!
image
... is used to upload digital images- photos, graphics, maps etc - from your computer to the image archive. These can then be referred to in articles, etc
event
... is used to create notices, announcements, etc of events to display on the calendar. Files such as pdf's, word documents, images, etc can be atttached to Event notices.
comment
... is a reply or response to another post so they always ride piggy-back on other content types. Please see this article.
