from Hull Bridge to Leven Canal
Photographic Cruise up the River Hull - part 5: Hull Bridge to Leven Lock End. Photographs from a Cruise up the River Hull from Hull Bridge to Bethell's Bridge on 27th August 2000, from the Narrow Boat Tame Valley on its return to the Driffield Navigation. Part 5 starting at Hull Bridge, through Pulfin Bog, past Aike Beck, Captain Kettles Cut to Leven Lock End.

Approaching the bridge under the A1035 Tickton By-Pass. Note that the head room of this bridge would not allow a Keel to pass under it. Sufficient head room should have been allowed, but as can be seen someone took the easy option and build the bridge at one level.

Approaching Pulfin Bog

Approaching Pulfin Bog

Pulfin Bog is a Nature reserve, popular for its fishing and wildlife.

Originally a Bog which was dug out, the materials being used for the raising of the flood banks along the river.

Continuing up stream with Pulfin Bog still on the right hand side, as the reed beds are approached and a narrow section of the river.

Reed beds on the right hand side as the course of the river winds around Pulfin Bog. The river at this point is narrow but the channel is deep.

Passing Ayke Beck, on the left hand side.

Passing Ayke Beck, on the left hand side.

The reed beds continue up this section until the bend is rounded, ahead.

Captain Kettles Cut (right hand side), at low water the ribs of several sunken barges are visible at the end of the cut. Pulfin Bog is beyond the end of the cut.

Last view of Pulfin Bog over the bank top as we approach Leven Lock end.

Approaching Leven Lock end. The Leven Canal and the Lock are not visible from the river unless a high vantage point is available.
