Photographs from a Cruise up the River Hull from Hull Bridge to Bethell's Bridge on 27th August 2000, from the Narrow Boat Tame Valley on its return to the Driffield Navigation.
Part 7 starting at Leven Lock End, past Wilfholme, Top Hill Low Nature Reserve and through Struncheon Hill Lock to Bethells Bridge.

Leaving Leven Lock Ends heading for Wilfholme.

Just before Wilfholme. Wilfholme is signposted off the A164 (Beverley to Driffield road) but try to find it on a map!

The trip boat Moon Searcher appears around the bend heading for Hull Bridge, with passengers looking forward to lunch at the Crown and Anchor.

Just past the moored boats at Wifholme, on the right hand side (opposite the farm) an old Ford across the river is still visible.

The pumping station at Wilfholme, the river at this point turns to the right. At this point it is advisable to stay reasonably close to the pumping station bank to avoid the shoal opposite the pumping station out fall.

Two families (on the left) enjoying a camping and boating August Bank Holliday on the river; small speed boat anchored ahead.

Just past Wilfholme is the start of Yorkshire Water property, on the left hand side. This area is a nature reserve up to Struncheon Hill Lock.

The stretch of the river adjacent to the Yorkshire Water Authority land and Nature Reserve has no landmarks that can be named. It is however one of the most picturesque section of the river up to Struncheon Hill Lock. The next 4 pictures have no explanatory text; they hopefully give you some idea of the scenery.

Just below Struncheon Hill Lock (Top Hill Low).

Struncheon Hill Lock and the Wear ahead, the head of the tidal section of the River Hull. Originally the river was tidal up to Snakeholme lock.

Leaving Struncheon Hill lock (restored by DNAA members in the 1960's) and the weed booms behind, now on the canal/river section of the Navigation.

Looking ahead towards Bethell's bridge up the 3/4 mile straight which is actually canal, it was dug when the course of the river Hull was altered to improve the Navigation.

The last leg as we pass through Bethell's bridge to our home mooring just beyond the bridge at Bethell's Bridge Boat Club.
