The effect of the orders, if confirmed, will be to add the footpaths to what is known as the Definitive Map.
If objections are lodged to the proposals, then the matter is likely to be referred to a Government Secretary of State and a public inquiry is likely to be held to resolve the dispute. Notice of the modification orders have been sent to the Driffield Town Council for consideration.
If confirmed, the orders will add a path within the curtilage of Lock View and leading in a north easterly direction for about 20 metres to the edge of the lock chamber, then continuing in a south east by southerly direction alongside the lock chamber and canal for about 96 metres close to the inspection chamber of a sewage outfall then continuing in a south westerly direction for six metres to rejoin a public footpath.
A spokesman for the ERYC told the town council: "The effect of the order, if confirmed, will be to add a footpath to a Definitive Map and Statement.
He said that to some extent, the confirmation of this order is dependent on the confirmation of an order made by the council on April 22 relating to another Riverhead path, which also runs past Lock View and is known locally as a former cart track.
"If both orders are objected to, it is likely to be the case that the council will ask the Secretary Of State to consider both issues at the same public inquiry. This is so that the issues are not addressed in isolation of each other."
Objections or representations about the proposals must be received by ERYC by July 9.
