The route took me from Nafferton across the fields to Driffield Riverhead and then along the canal to Wansford and then back to Nafferton. I was accompanied by my sister and her daughter.
On an open field between Nafferton and Driffield, I noticed someone approaching and walking rather unsteadily with the aid of two sticks and accompanied by two terrier type dogs.
As I was accompanied by my own rather playful and excitable dog, I put him on his leash, kept him close to heel so that he would not in any way impede the person's progress and carried on with our walk.
At this point my sister noticed that the two terriers, which were running loose, approached my dog, and as my dog is likely to react in a grumpy way, she told the terriers to keep away, hoping to avoid any doggie unpleasantness.
At this, we were met with a torrent of verbal abuse and when I tried to politely explain what we were trying to do, I was informed that I was a loud mouthed . . . . . . . !
Having walked away from that, we continued our walk.
I was then met by a man who informed me that 30 or so yards of the public right of way I was following on my directed walk, was on his land at the Driffield lock.
As there was no alternative route to cover this very short distance, I continued thinking to myself how sad this man is to stop people walking across the end of his drive - not in his garden or past his house as in a beautiful part of the walk in Wansford.
How said it is that these two people could not enjoy this September day, unless of course trying to ruin other people's enjoyment is their way of finding their own enjoyment.
Thanks, guys, for making me feel so welcome in Yorkshire.
