annual canoe and kayak race

Apparently, there used to ba an annual canoe and/or kayak race on the Navigation which seems to have petered out in recent years.

It would be very nice to know more about this from a historical point of view - please add comment at the foot of this page if you can help.

Also, for anyone interested in reviving this event, I heard a rumour that the Lord Lieutenant of East Riding, Sir Ian McDonald [? ] has offered to sponsor a prize or Cup.
