Sailing Barge Interest Group

When we talk about sailing barges we really mean flat bottom sailing barges with a gaff or similar rig (including square). Yes, you are right, Thames Sailing Barges fall into this category and would be welcomed. However, the Thames Barges are already rather well organized and do have their own clubs, associations and regattas. SBIG is intended more for privately owned barges of various origins. Currently, UK rallies are mainly organized on the none tidal Thames beyond many bridges and with certainly no room for sailing. SBIG would try to organize a meeting for sailing barges in a more suitable environment, where actually sailing could be on the agenda.
