towpath from Riverhead to Whinhill Lock
- At town lock the towpath veers briefly away from the canal, dodging around Lock View and Sedgefield cottages via a leafy corridor.
- Access to Town Lock is a public right of way [?] across Lockview's lawn.
- For most of this length it is a wide grass path between the hawthorne-dotted bank of the canal and a wire fence.
- The towpath side is an island of meadow and carr, waterbound by the beck on the west and the canal to the east.
- The east side is a series of farms, most notabley Chesney Farm which runs stables and has paddocks down to the water's edge.
- Another public footpath (shown on the OS 1:25000 map) used to connect with the towpath just below the powerlines ... The footpath follows the west bank of the beck all the way to wansford bridge and beyond. Unfortunately the footbridge at this end no longer exists, limiting access to all but the most adventurous.
